Lunar Hollow Farm is a few acres of beautiful land outside of Deerfield, Wisconsin. At Lunar Hollow Farm we use organic and permaculture principles. As a white person using the principles of permaculture, I acknowledge that permaculture comes from practices created by indigenous cultures and peoples around the world for thousands of years. I acknowledge I am privileged to own land, and that I am using processes created by indigenous people. To me, the principles of permaculture go beyond food forests and soil building and are priniciples that can be used to create a more equitable, restorative, and cooperative community.
LUNAR HOLLOW PLANS Our plans for 2021:
Add another 60-80 plant types to our medicinal and natives gardens
Increase our permaculture reclamation in our energy optimization and organization
Integrate fermented plant biological supports and controls In our systems
Add another 1-2 dozen fruit types
Expand our trialing areas so that we can trial grains as we work to become more self-sufficient (upland dry rice, quinoa, millet, amaranth, barley, oats).
Work with farm experiment groups to trial plants that were indigenous to this area in the past
Grow more seeds to share with our seed grants
Increase our food and food to share with our local food pantry
Design and implement water systems to help during dry times and to get rainwater catchment into the back acre
Build an outdoor kitchen that includes open fire cooking and wood fired oven
Build a garden washing system where we redirect used plant water back into the gardens
Expand our native nursery greenhouse to include more future trees and natives
Plant winecaps to be a part of our woodland medicinal area
Build a space where people can stay when they come to visit - either an RV, 2-3 season tent on a platform , or a tiny house.
Start planning and budgeting to transition our home to solar within 10 years.
Create solar systems for the greenhouse and add a drying shed for herbs behind the greenhouse that utilizes the hot greenhouse air.
