Lunar Hollow Farm is a few acres of beautiful land outside of Deerfield, Wisconsin. We moved to this place in September of 2018, and in our first growing season of 2019 we created many medicinal beds, a large food garden, installed 2 orchard spaces, got chickens, and started beehives. Whew!
For 2020, we expanded again, and started mushroom logs, expanded our medicinal woodland conservation area, added many native fruit including plum, and expanded our canes and berries. 2020 has been an interesting year. We planned on having people here to volunteer to help me with medicinal herb growing for HWB, volunteers helping in the US COmmunity Apothecary for HWB that is located here, and to offer plant walks, classes, and other educational events and activities. With COVID, that all changed, and so the focus instead was on getting a greenhouse, starting medicinal trees and endangered medicinal natives in that space, expanding fruit, food, and orchard. And, expanding the perennial medicinals both in prairie, beds, and woods. We have a large woodland garden started that includes mushroom logs and many wonderful native medicinals. We compost our plant and chicken waste here, and use that gold on our beds. We look to permaculture and biodynamic gardening to manage our space here, and are working to increase our yield of foods for our family (and the local food pantry) as well as have medicinals for donation and education, for our family, and for seed. This Is our first year saving larger amounts of medicinal seed and we will share those back out in seed grants in 2021. As we navigate how this might work into the future with covid, our US Community Apothecary space is going strong, our gardens are going strong, and there is much still to do. At Lunar Hollow Farm we use organic, biodynamic, and permaculture principles. |
